Hottest Entry-Level DSLR Cameras

Point and shoot cameras are a terrific option for most people looking to purchase a new digital camera. They're incredibly user friendly and economical, however they just don't suffice for those interested in high quality photos. Pictures taken with point-and-shoot cameras lack the sophistication, depth and richness of color compared to those taken by SLR cameras (single lens reflex).

Nowadays with the wide expansion of the camera market, DSLRs are not only more common but also cheaper, no longer does it cost upwards of 0 for a decent DSLR, manufacturers now make a wide selection of entry-level cameras. These DLSRs and their lower price point are much more accessible to photo hobbyists and casual photographers who want quality pictures without necessarily becoming a full-fledged photographer. Its the perfect in-between.

Nikon D3000

That being said, there are numerous cameras to choose from- I'd recommend these three for an excellent entry-level buy: the Pentax K-X, the Nikon D3000 and the Canon Rebel XS. Each option is cost effective, highly rated and of great quality. As with everything though, each camera has its strengths and weaknesses but they are some of the cream of the crop.

The Pentax K-X averages from 0 to upwards of 0, depending on where you buy the camera. Its fast, inexpensive and really stands out from the competition with its low-light quality. Compared to other cameras in its range, the K-X has above average picture quality when taking pictures in low light situations (nighttime, etc.). However, many find its image stabilization to be unreliable. Regardless, it is a great choice with a plethora of features.

Next up is the Nikon D3000, which also averages around 0 to 0. Nikon is known to have amazing cameras and picture quality and the D3000 does not disappoint. The camera comes with an optional interface tailored for beginners and is very user friendly - an excellent camera for those newer to photography. One downside however, it the camera's set of features which are a bit basic in the face of its competition. Regardless, the camera does not skimp on picture quality.

Another well-known brand, Canon's EOS Rebel XS is basically a smaller (and cheaper) version of its pricier big brother, the Rebel XSi (which retails anywhere from 0 to over 0). The Rebel XS has a nice set of features but does not particularly stand out in many respects. The one area that the Rebel does makes an impression is with its superb photo quality.
